VALEDICTORY.

PRESENTATION TO MR AND MRSG. M'HATTIE. A pleasing function took place, at the Club Hotel, Masterton, on Saturday afternoon, at the conclusion of the meeting of the Wairarapa Caledonian Society, when Mr G. MoHattie, who with Mrs MoHattie, will leave shortly on a visit to Sootland, was tho reoipient of a presentation from the members of the Caledonian Society. The members of the Society present were:—Messrs J. B. MoKenzie (chairman), G. Heron, A. W. Cave, R. Gray, T. Wyeth, J. H, Pauling, E. E. Chamberlain, E. H. Waddington, A. MoLeod, J. M. Coradine, J. MoKenzie, J. MoHattie, J. Taplin A. Taplin and J. Morris jnr. The Chairman said that Mr MoHattie an old member of the Society, and an ex-President. As he was about to leave on a trip to Scotland the members had gathered together to wish him bou voyage. He then called on Mr Heron to make the presentation to Mr and Mrs MoHattie, on behalf of the Society. Mr Heron, in carrying out that duty, said it was to him a very pleasing one. He was sura he was voicing the sentiments of the members when he wished the departing friends bon voyage, and a speedy return. Mr MoHattie had always been an energetic member of the Society, and a good citizen. He then presented Mr MoHattie with a handsome travelling bag, and, also, a rug for Mrs MoHattie. Mr and Mrs McHattie's health was then drunk with musioal honours. Mr MoHattie, in replying, said he was sure he was the most uncomfortable person in the room at the time. He had never expected, muoh less merited, such a token of reoip rooity. On behalf of Mrs MoHattie and himself, he thanked the Society heartily for their kindness. What little he had dono for the Society had always oeen done spontaneously. He hoped to return to Masterton in a few month?, and be with them all again, and then he hoped the tables would be turned, and he would be bidding bon voyage to some of the other u-embers. In conclusion, he expressed his best wishes to all the members.
