MASTERTON BOROUGH COUNCIL.
WOKKS COMMITTEE. The Works Committee of the Mustertou Borough Couucil met, last evening. There were present: —The Mayor, and Crs J. B. Pauling, T. G. Hour. W. Morris, J. 0. Ewiugton, JE. G. Etcu, E. Feist, E. MoEvveu and J. Elliott. An apology for absence was leceived from Cr P. W. Temple. Accounts amounting to £3Bl 14s 3d were passed for payment. An account from the ValuerGeneral for £l7 10a for revising the Borough Valuation Roll, which had been referred to the Committee from the Council, was recommenced for payment. Aa application was lo'Jged by Mr A. Caseiberg to have a road made leading from Worksop Road through his section (formerly owned by the Hospital Trustees) in Worksop Road The plans were submitted and aftediscussion the Committee, before acting, decided to ask the other landowners in the vicinity in question, viz., the Wesleyan Church Trustees, and Messrs J. Macara and T. Dixon, to confer and make an agreement among themselves. An application was made by Mr T. Houuslow to have the gap laid on to his premises in Chapel Street. In was decided to have the work curried oat at once. A letter was received from Messrs Bunny and Dolan, on behalf of Kerry's Estate, objecting to the urinal being oreotod on the comer of Perry and Chapel Streets, and requesting the Council to remove it. The grounds tor the objections were that the street was too narrow, aud in a few years hence, when shops were erected on the site, the structure would be detrimental to the site. The matter was discussed, and several Councillors admitted that the Council bad made a mistake in erecting the urinal where it now stands. Finally the Mayor moved, and Cr Feist seconded, that the "jrinal be removed. The motion was negatived, and the matter was allowed to drop. The Engineer was instructed to prepare a plan for a bridge, 20 feet in width, over the Makora stream, in Columba Road, and submit it to a special meeting of the Council, to be oalled by the Mayor, A letter was received from the Committee of the Masterton Gymnasium' and Physical Training School, asking that the footpath in front of the' Gymnasium in Dixon atreei be repaired. The Engineer was instructed to carry out the work. v The Committee decided to allow the Engineer to asphalt the District High School yard on behalf of the School Committee, provided that the Committee paid the cost price of the work. The meeting then adjourned.
