GREYMOUTH, March 20. The twenty-first annual convention of the New Zealand Women's Christian Temperance Union began their session to-day. A large number of delegates were present from all over the colony. Resolutions were passed protesting strongly against the employment of barmaids, as a practice fraught with evil to the young women and those frequenting the house; that the Premier should be urged to» introduce a Bill raising the age uf protection to twenty-one years; that the Convention desire to enter a strong protest against the continued delay in the repeal of the CD. Act; that a permissive bill be passed providing for the protection of young persons by arranging for the fining of guardians whose children are fobnd loitering on the streets at night without sufficient reason; that this Convention views with dismay the dangers arising from the issue of licenses to grocers, and urges the Union to bring pressure to bear upon the Licensing Bench with a view to the abolition of such licenses. The delegates were welcomed at afternotou tea by the ladies of the town, and a most enjoyable time was spent.
