A PAEROA SENSATION.
PTOMAINE POISONIN'G, By Telerctaph—Press Association. THAMES, March 19. A great sensation was caused at Paeroa, this afternoon, when about 50 people who were in attendance at the Ohinemuri Juokey Club's races were attacked with ptomaine poisoning. Amongst the eatables supplied at the luncheon was potted tongue. It is believed that this was the cause of the attack. Some of the cases were serious, and it was feared that there j would be loss of life. Some were | attacked so seriously that they bad to be carried into Paeroa on stretchers. The hotels were for a time full of aiok people. T,here was great excitement as the news spread, and considerable anxiety. Amongst those attacked were Sergeant M'Kinnon, Waihi, Detectives Neville and Miller, Constable Beddek and other policemen. Messrs Fielder, H. Bueh and Wallace, Paeroa, were also ill, but are now in a better condition. Mrs R. Montgomery and A, Montgomery were in a serious condition. Mr Royal. Komata Valley, Mr Moresby,- Waihi, Miss M'Enteer, Thames, Mrs E. Shaw and Mr Connolly, Karangahake, and" a boy named Henderson, were also attacked. They are reported to be out of dancer.
