CHAMBER OF COMMERCE.
MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly meeting of the Council of the Chamber of Commerce, was held, yesterday, afternoon. There were present: Messrs D. Donald (ohairnißii), M. Cnselberg. jr. T. Holmes, J. D. Uruicksbauk, B. J. Dolan. W. B. Chennells, E. E. Chamberlain. Apologies for absence were received from Messrs F. W. Carey, J. B. Moodie, C. Grahanl, J. B Keith. The Treasurere reported a credit balance of £1 6a 3d. A communication was recoived from tno Woodville Borough Coun. c jj, regarding the conference of delegates from Chambers, held at Palmerston North, recently. The Council supported all the resolutions passed by the conference, with the exception of the one asking that the morning train from Woodville to Napier should start from Palmerston North, aud he extended to that place on the return journey. Other arrangements wore suggested, but the Chamber were of tlie opinion that the matter did not 1 pertain to Masterton. A telegram was received from the Palmerston North Chamber of Commerce stating that a deputation from the Chambers of Commerce would wait on the Acting Minister for Railways, on 'luesday afternoon next, but the Chamber decided to reply that the time was too short to allow of the matter being considered. The Managers of the Masterton Technical School vsrote thanking the Chamber for the support it had given to the school last, year, by way of offering money for prizes, aud asking if t'ie Chamber would, also, offer prizes this year. It was decided to reply that the Chamber, owing to the shortage of funds, could not see their way to make any donation this year. A letter was received from the Holidays' Committee of the Wairarapa Employers' Assouiation, notifying the Chamber of the result of the Eketahuna Chamber's request to have a half-holiday declared on Easter Saturday, and the Masterton Chamber decided to reply to the Eketahuna Chamber's letter, stating that they were satisfied with the Holiday Committee's decision, viz, not to declare a half-holiday on Easter Saturday. The Chairman was instructed to make enquiries as to why Masterton had not direct telephone communication with Wellington, and Palmerston did have that privilege,
