MASTERTON HOSPITAL TRUSTEES.
MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly meeting of the Masterton Hospital Trustees was held, yesterday morning, when there were present—Messrs A. W. Hogg (.in the chair), VV. Fisher, VV. Harris, J. 0. Ewington, J. A. Renall, M. J. H. Jaokson and J. 0. Cooper. The Matron's report showed that there were nine patients in the Hospital at last meeting, ten sinoe admitted, nine discharged, leaving ten at present in the institution. The Treasurer reported that the receipts for the month had been £4OB 6s 9d, and the disbursements for the same pariod £265 lis 4d, leaving, with the balance brought forward from last month, a credit balance of £3pO Us 9d. A recommendation was received from the committee appointed to enquire into the charges made by the architects f r preparing plans and specifications for the new hospital buildings, to the effeot that the oharge of 2)4, per cent, levied for the plans wnioh had been prepared by the architects and not used by the Trustees should be taken exception to, and that Messrs Hogg, Ewington and Kenall should personally wait on the architects in connection with that matter. The recommendation was adopted. The Secretary submitted the estimates for the ensuing year. They showed that the deficit on the Working Account to be requisitioned for was £979 10s. Last year the amount to be requistioned for was £665, but then a credit balance of £.255 was brought forward, and the rations this year were £SO in excess of those last year. The advisableness of making application to the District Hospital Board was then discussed, and Mr Ewington. moved and Mr Renall seconded, "that the estimates be revised at a special meeting to db held on the 17th inst. with a view y to making provision for any anticipated deficit in connection with tne new building; in which case the Finanoe Committee be authorised to interview the District Hospital Board on the subject." The Chairman tooK exception to that proposal for the reason that two years ago, when the Board granted a substantial sum towards the new Hospital, he made the proiiise to the Board thac no further application would be lodged. Other Trustees spoke against the motion for the same reason, and on it being put to the meeting, the motion was lost.
A motion that the estimates be approved of was then carried. Mr Hogg was appointed the visiting member for the month, and the meeting then closed.
