POLICE COURT.
MASTERTON—TUESDAY. (Before Mr W. P. Jame*, S.M.) Drunkenness.—For having been drank wtiile in charge of a horae, in Pine Street, on Monday evening, Osear Manzell was fined 20a, in "default seven daye' imprisonment.
Alleged Assault.—The case of James O'Brien, charged with having assaulted Hapita Whakamairu on the 26tb ult., was adjourned until Friday. Juvenile Offenders.—A group of boys, named Arthur Boyd, Ernest Boyd, George Forman, George Reardon, and Oscar Olsen were oharged with having used insulting worda to Edward Green on the night of the 4th inst. All, with the exception of 'Reardon, denied the charge. Edward Green gave evidence to the effect that during the past twelve months the defendants on several occasions followed him about the streets and shouted at him for the purpose of annoying him. Constable KyJe stated that on the night in question, while on "duty in Queen Street in plain clothes, he beard the defendants oaliing Green objectionable names. Sergeant O'Malley stated that the boys were brought before the Court for the purpose of putting a stop to the practice ty making an example of them. As there was not sufficient evidence against him, Olsen was discharged. Owing to the nonappearance of the father of theßoyds, the Magistrate felt that he could not hand them over to the police for punisnment, and fined them 10s each, in default three days' imprisonment. Forman, who had already been punished by his father, was fined ss. Reardon was fined a similar amount, the Magistrate remarking that he was the only one of the group who had the manliness to admit the charge.
Breaches of the Borough Bylaws. —-Horing Otto denied a charge of having ridden a bicycle on the footpath in Ohapel Street on March 2nd last, but admitted the charge of having ridden without >a light on the same date. Constable Heffernan gave evidence as to seeing the offences, but both he and Constable Kyle had endeavoured to obtain defendant's name and he had refused to give it. Defendant seated that he had only ridden across the footpath. He was convicted and discharged on the first charge, and fined 10s and costs on the second. Alfred Kebble was fined ss, without oosts, for having ridden a bicycle on the footpath in Perry Street on March sth. and for a similar affenoe in Queen Street on the same date William Bignall was fined 5s with 7s oosts. Herbert Jones pleaded guilty to a charge of having ridden a bioycle without a light in Perry Street on the night of the sth inst., and was fined 5s without oosts.
Separation Order.—Nellie Millar applied for a separation order from her husband, James McKenzie Millar. At the oongent of the defendant the order was made, the complainant to have the oustody of the children. Defendant was ordered to pay 10s per week for the eupport of hia wife and ohildren, the first payment to be made on March 20th, and to pay 7s costs.
