Dated this sth day of March, 1906. WILLIAM GILLESPIE. Returning Officer. MASTERTON LICENSING ELECTION. TO THE ELECTORS. Ladies and gentlemen.- i offer my services for the honour of representing you on the Masterton Licensing Commits e. Shouldl be returned I intend to see that a proper supervision of the Trade is exercised, and to carefully study the interests of the public with respect to accommodation for travellers. I shall support the granting of permits to gatherings in the Public Park and Show (Grounds as long as there is no abuse of such a privilege. Past experiences of such grants do not justify the Licensing Committee in withdrawing them* The result of the last poll showed that the electers supported this view. 1 consider the present hour of closing—eleveD o'clock—to be one most suited to the requirements of the travelling public. , Yours, etc. J. H. PAULING. LICENSING. ELECTION. TO THE ELECTORS. Ladies and gentlemen, -i am a candidate for a seat on the Masterton Licensing Committee, and if elected shall do my. best to have the law administered without fear or favour. I believe in 10 o'clock closing and prohibiting the sale of intoxicating liquor on the Park Oval. Yours faithfullv, JOHN CROSS. 10th March, 190G, Mnsterton. MASTERTON LICENSING ELECTION. J HAVE consented to nomination for a seat on the new Committee. As a member of the retiring Committee I have always opposed the extension of one hour from ten to eleven o'clock for closing time, and if elected shall do so again. As to special permits, it has been the practice of the late Committee to grant all • applications to which the police did not qbiect; this I think is wrong. The Committee should do the work for which it is elected, and not shelter itself behind the police reports. Holding these opinions, I was in a minority on the late Committee, and I understand that ray action does not meet with the approval of the publican, or " Moderate" party. I cannot help that, but oiler my services to the people, not the pubfioans. While not anxious for re-election, if returned I shall seek to do the work in the spirit of the Licensing Act. | CHAS. E. DAMELL, MASTERTON BOROUGH COUNCIL. APPLICATIONS are invited for' the office of Manager of the Masterton Corporation Gasworks. Salary, £2OO per annum, with free house, lighting, and fuel. Particulars ot duties, etc., can be had at the Age Office, or a copy can be had at the office of the undersigned. Applications to be addressed to the Town Clerk, Masterton, and sent to arrive not later than Saturday, 24th March, 1906. Canvassing of members of the Council will be a disqualification. E. BBOWN, Town Clerk,
