NO-LICENSE PARTY'S PROGRAMME.

(To the Editor). Sir, —According to the manifesto, as published ly the Rev. D. -J. Murray, President of the Masterton No-license League, the following gentletaen have been selected as the League's candidates Messrs J. 0. Cooper, John '- Cross, 0. E. Daniell, E. Feist and T. Moss. Surely, Sir, they must have been "hard put" for candidates when they include such an inconsistent candidate as Mr John Croas. Mr Cross hus openly stated that in addition to closing hotels at 10 p.m., lie will, if elected, prevent a publican's booth being allowed Park, and when asked if lie would also exclude it from the Showgrounds bus stated on many occasions that he will not. "because the Intter is a business concern." He has also stated that "our wives and children should net be allowed to see people publicly drinking in the Park," but, by his inconsistent | statement, has no objection to their seeing it done in the Showgrounds. For absolute inconsistency, Sir, Mr John Cross takes the proverbial "cako." Surely if the No-liceuse League r wantrd to run candidates, they might have showu some consiotency, and selected gentlemen who are known to possess genuine Noliceuse League principles, without having to fall back upon a "crossbred" mixture ot t> supporter of the liquor traffic (as Mr Cross is known to be) and, 1 for the nonce, at present, an accredited supporter of the Masterton No-license League, as vouched for by the President, the Rev. D. J. Murray, in his manifesto. It is, therefore, to be hoped that the voters to-day will show their disgust for inconsistency of this nature by striking out Mr Cross's name; and if it is the desire of the voters that a "No-license League" Committee should be returned, that they will return the "genuine article," and not inolude amongst them a nonde:cript. But before returning a "No-license League" Committee, 1 trust that the voters will ponder and consider if it is advisable to replane the existing Committee, who have done such good work during the last three years. In reading the report of the meeting of the Masterton A. and P. Association, held on Saturday, 1 I notice that amongst the receipts one item was "publican's booth £119," whilst the gates only realised £2lB, I also observe that-Mr McGregor wished to know where the funds were coming from to pay accounts. He may well ask that question if the publican's booth is swept off the Showground next year, as it most undoubtedly will be if the No-license League get their Committee returned. —I am, etu., AN ADMIRER OF CONSISTENCY". •
