CHAMPIONSHIP MEETING. LIEUT. IRVJNE (NELSON) WINS THE i BELT. MONCRIEFF (CHRISTCHURCH) SECOND. GREENWOOD (UPPER HUTT) THIRD. CAMERON (OPAKI) WINS THE RIFLE CHALLENGE CUP. By Telegraph—Press Association. TRENTHAM RANGE March 10. There was a large attendance to see the championship fired this afternoon. There was a bright sun shining, with a light left wind blowing across the range. Only ten shots baa to be fired, and the resalt addud to the competitors' previous aggregate gave the champion for the ynar. The last half of the final fifty fired first and although none of these had a chance for the Belt, all the fifty outside of the maiu prizes 6ecuro a £2 prize. Rifleman Cameron, of the Opaki Rifle Club, made the highest score (37) at this rauge, and holds the Jtiifle Challenge Cup for the year. Rifleman Winslade aud Hyde, of Opaki, and Lieut. Irvine, opened badly, while Mooerieff, with 32 out of 35, bad overtaken the leaders, and louhed like winning the Belt, but missed bis eighth and ninth shots. Irvine, meanwhile, had found the "spot," and, with 30, brought up his aggregate to 431, which gave him the Championsip Belt. 1000 YARDS RANGE. BallJones thought a permanent camp should be erected here, permanent buildings being erected instead of tents. The old association handed over the champion belt and all its trophies to the Government association. At the meeting last year Irvine was forty-fifth in the aggregate. In 1904 he was second to W. Ching, of Nelson, (542) with a score of 539. .Lieutenant Irvine is a memter of the Waimea Kifles, Nelson.
