With reference to the statem6nt reoeutly puhl'shed that there was at present 224 newspapers in New Zealand, a correspondent informs' the Nelson Colonist that in the month of September, 1849, there were only six newspapers published in New Zealand, namely, The Examiner, published at Nelson; The Spectator and The Independent, published'at Wellington; The Southern Gross anti' The New Zealander, at Auckland; and The Otago Witness, at Dunedin. The Lyfctelt on Times appeared' on January 11th, 1851.
