NORTHERN NIGERIA.
A MESSAGE FROM GENERAL LUGARD. Keceived March 7, 8.30 a.m. LONDON, March 6. Brigadier General Sir F. D. Lugard telegraphs that the Mahdi, who led the recent rising, has died from wounds. The rebels are surrounded by the Sokoto native contingent, which is awaiting reinforcements. All the Emirs remain loyal to the British. The rebels are chiefly outlaws and fugitives.
