The suppression of the revolt in the Baltic provinces continues with great severity. Within two days thirty-four persons were shot at Ilasenpoth, in the Libfui district. A sohoolmaster was hanged, and eight others executed at Grobiu.
PAWNBROKERS ROBBED.

ST. PETERSBURG. February 23. Revolutionaries at Vinla, in Western Russia, robbed the pawnbroking institute of three million roubles (about £317,000) worth of jewellery.
The famine in Russia exceeds in area and intensity the famine in 1891.

ST. PETERSBURG, February 23. At Moscow the "parly of thirtieth October," the date on which the Czar issued bis manvtesto promising liberty—advocates cessation of the death penalty without trial, and the immediate convocation of the Duma as the surest means of pacifying the country.
COUNT WITTE'S ORGAN.
ST. PETERSBURG, February 23. Count Witte's organ, while declaring that the financial situation inspires no misgivings, admits that it is indispensable to raise loans to the amount of seventy millions sterling to prevent disorganisation of the gold currency.
