By Telegraph—Press Association.
WELLINGTON, February 24.
The match, Melbourne v. Wellington, was resumed to-day in perfect weather. The heavy rain which fell last night had not affected the wicket, which was again in flrst-olass order. The visitors held the wiokets until a little over an honr to the drawing of stumos, their score being 330, towards whiah Armstrong uontributed 175, Mailer 57, MoLeod 25, Wilkinson 19, Rans ford 19, and Aitken 16. The iskipper, who bad such a large share in the compilation of the runs was at the wiokets just on two hours and twenty minutes and only one possible chance was debited against him. He batted beautifully, each ball being accurately gauged, and, where necessary, plenty of oower was applied. His chief scoring strokes were the Dull and forward on and oif drives. Mailer batted nicely. His action elicited admiration from the ■spectators. The MoLeod Armstrong partnership realised over 100 runs. Monaghan was by far the best -bowler on the local side, and his performance of seven wickets for 97 runs was full of merit. All the fcatstnen, with the exception of Armstrong, treated him with the greatest respect. Tucker secured two for^l.
Wellington has made a promising start in their second essay. Redgrave and Hickson, in the seventy minutes left for play, amassed 92, and were undefeated at the close of the day's play. Redgrave has 64 to his credit, obtained by forceful batting, while Hickson, who adopted cautious tactics, has 24 to his credit. The remainder of the score was made up of extras.
The attendance during the afternoon's proceedings numbered about 3,500, and £174 represents the gate takings to date.
