GILBERTIAN ETIQUETTE.
-—:—+= , A diverting case of Gilbertian etiquette is reported from Ne> York, to which place the schooner M. E. Wallace brought in the crow of the schooner Fanny Ficbie, /which foundered on December 23rd. The rescue developed a peouliar phase of the labour disputes. The rescued meu were plentifully fed, but were compelled to eat at a separate mess, and were not allowed to speak to their rescuers, as the men of the two schooners were memßers of rival unions., Mr ,W. S. Gilbert to some extent anticipated this ludicrous situation. In one of *his "Bab Ballads" ho describes how two men who swam ashore on a lonely inland from/a wrecked ship, abstained from speaking to one another because they had not been introduced.
