SINKING A WELL AT ROTORUA.
OVERPOWERING FUMES. A MAN LOSES HIS LIFE. ROTORU.A, February 19. Two men naoied Brady and Had ford had been engaged in Sinking a well' about a mile from bere. On resuming work this morning Brady was first to go down the well, anil was immediately overcome by the foul gas and fell to the bottom. Radford sought the assistance of Goodson brothers and others. Fred Goodson weuc down the well to endeavour, to get Brady up, but he was no soouer down/than he too was overcome. Fortunately he bad taken the precaution to put a rope round his body, and by this means was hauled to the surface. He was unconscious, and remains so. He is under medical attendance. Sergeant Phair got Brady's oody up with grappling irons. Life was extinct. 1 The fumes from the well were overpowering. Brady was a single man, and it is believed that - his parents reside at Otahuhu. LATER, Goodson remained unconscious until 5 o'clock, but since then he has improved. Brady had only descended about 20ft when he was overcome. It was lucky for Good son that be was hauled up t?o greedily. Bad it been otherwise he would have succumbed.
