NATIONAL DEFENCE.
' A LETTER FROM LORD ROBERTS. Received February 19, 8.42 a.m. LONDON, Fobruary 19. Field-Marshal Lard Roberts, in a letter to the newspapers, explains the objeots and policy of the National Service League. He proposes tbat all men of sound physique should lie liable during a certain poriod of,their lives to service in the United Kingdom in case of emergency. He also advocates the compulsory training for three or four months of young men of military age, and the teaching of drill and the use of the rifle in all schools. Eight Labour members of the House of Commons sire in favour of the scheme.
