MOUNTED CORPS.

VARIOUS DOINGS. The Pahiatua Mounted Rifles finished their annual training camp on Saturday, 10th February. During the week ten non-oommissioned officers were examined by Major S. Bolton. On Wednesday the annual sports took place at the raoeoomse in the presence of a large number of visitors, and the corps gave some splendid exhibitions of. horsemanship. Sergeant-Major Sweeney obtained the first prize for best equipped man. Trooper MoTavish and his three sons scored first for section jumping. The Pahiatua Band was present. Altogether the sports were a great success. Captain Browne (staff) aoted as judge, and was assisted by Captain White. Sergeant McOardle wan starter, and Sergeant Sturton secretary, assisted by Trooper Blake. On Thursday the squadron proceeded to Hamua, and paraded with the Eketahuna Mounted Rifles, when Major Bolton was put through his practical examination by Major Joyce and Captain Browne, of the New Zealand Defence Forces. After the parade both corps dined together. Major Joyce and Captain Browne left for Farndon and Napier, respectively. The Eketahuna Mounted Rifles went into Camp on Saturday, 10th February, and will remain till the 17tb. Captain Herbert is in oharge, and Staff-Sergeant Burr is the instructor. At the Woodville Show two teams entered for the Jumping and Leading Competition. Foiiding Mounted Rifles, under Sergeant Stevens, wefe first, and gave a fine display, obtaining 53 points out of 60. The second team, under Corporal MoTavish, wore unfortunate in losing two horses. However, No. 3 Trooper S. McTavisb, managed them well. In the Rescue Race, twelve competitors entered, and Ttooper S. MoTavish received first prize, Sergeant-Major Ran by being second. Sorgeauts Cornelius and Sturton have been elected officers for the Pahiatua Mounted Rifles. The Wairarapa Mounted Rifles will go into camp at Martinborough ou Saturday, 17th February, till the 24th.
