DROWNING ACCIDENT.

NELSON, February 13. A youth, named Alfred Hannan, aed 16 years, who ■ was on his way from Greymouth to Wellington, spending a day or two here, went to bath in the Maitai River, this evening, with other boys. Being unable to swim he walked to the top end o? a deep hole to cross the river, but got out of his depth and sank. He was not missed for a few minutes,; then the boyo searched and brought him out. Efforts at resuscitation were made for a long time, and, also, by Drs. Andrews, and Lucas, but were unavailing. An inquest will be held to-morrow. The deceased was the son of a wellknown solicitor.
