WINDSOR MAGAZINE.
In the second article, accompanied by 28 reproductions in colour from tLe Vauity Fair cartoons in the Windsor for January, which is just to hand from Messrs McLeod and Young, . stationers, Masterton, the contributor says:— "In 11)03. the Shah of Persia was sketched by Mr Leslie Ward, during the visit of that iuler to this country, an occasion which is still remembered, as have beeu previous Persian visits, through the display of diamonds which confronted our guest ati the Opera. 'He takes so much interest in mechanics,' said 'Jebu Junior,' that, energetic sightseer as he is, be was more keenly pleased by his .recent visit to Woolwich Arsenal than with anything else in England. Although he ia not remarkable fox punctuality, ne has lately purchased ten motorcars, and he creatod a very favourable impression in this couutry, which was not lessened, perhaps, by the fact that he spent money freely. Altosether he is quite an enlightened Persian, although a very slow traveller. He geuerally looks very solomn ; but he can laugh." From an interesting article, entitled "Chronicles in Oartoou," which appears in the January issue of the Windsor Magazine, a very sumptuous Now Year number, no jot inferior to its enormously successful Christmas predecessor, for it concludes a large Instalment of Antbongy Hope's new romance, "Sophy or K>avonia," complete stories by B. F. Bensou, Justus Miles Forman, Robert Barr and other famous novelisls. On the art side it includes no fewer than sixteen of tho pictures of Mr James Sant, R.A., beautifully reproduced.
