THE MASTERTON BAND.
THEIR RETURN HOME. The merbeis of tbo Masterton Municipal Brass Baud left Nelaou early ou Sunday morning, after being farewelied by the Mayor and a large number of citizens, and arrived in Wellington at midday, having experienced an exceedingly rough passage across the Straits. Ou the way home a selection was played on the station at Cross' Creek, which the residents fully appreciated. The monitors arrived in Masterton by last evening's train and were met at the station by a large number of people and several members of the Fire Brigade. A torchlight processiou was formed, and the band played selections as they inarched into the town, followed by a large crowd. The members of the Baud speak highly of the manner in which tbiy were treated while in Nelson. With regard to the test selection, which Masterton -oat to Deuuiston. by threeparts of a point, the conductor. Mr F. W. G. McLeod, when spoken to ou the subject, said that Masterton had the crowd with them, and were apparently dissatisfied when the result was known, and thought it must have been a casoof "last impression" with the judge, as Denniston played last, and Masterton had played two hours previously. Masterton won the aggregate from Deuuieton by one point, but for this there was no prize offered. The judge'was of the opiuiou tns.t the music was first-class throughout. After they arrived refreshments were partaken of at the Fire Brigade Station. Conducto" McLeod thanked the Brigade for tho welcome they had given, and CaDtain Jenkins, for the Brigade, responded. Cheers were then given for Conductor McLeod and Drum-Major Ilunu and ";he gathering dispersed.
