NEW POST OFFICE.

OPENED BY SIR JOSEPH WARD. ANOTHER RAILWAY CHARGE. PALMERSTON N., February 5. :i Sir Joseph Ward opened the new Post Office, to-day, in the presence of a number of people. Ha said that apart from post-card a, packages, etc., 2,199,145 letters had /jeen dealt with in the Palmerston North Post Office last year, and the postal and telephone revenue was £11,435. Replying to a deputation, he said the time would arrive shortly when the people would have to pay admission to New Zealand railway platforms, to prevent overcrowding. It was impossible at present to devise a scherre whereby railway tickets could be sold lik« stamps in shops.
