MOUNT HOLDSWORTH.

(To the Editor). Sir,—Kindly, allow me to thank "Disgusted" for his letter in the Age some days ago. Owiog to absence from town, I have been unable to i reply before now. Your correspondent I haa been good enough to prove my statement that there is a lack of public spirit in our men of means. No wonder your correspondent signs himself "Disgusted." He only instances Mr J. A. Renall as a publio benefactor; well, after that, I think, instead of leaving your thumb out of the count, as suggested in my former letter, you may put it in and leave the lingers out. Your thumb will be sufficient to puil out the one plum—"Our Joe." However, I don't want to get further off the traok. What about Mount Holdsworth track? Many persons struggle up to the top, and some straggle and get bushed. Local bodies won't be bothered to cater for climbers; they have their own little garden patches to look after, and cannot stretch their overdrafts to provide material benefit to their districts. What is wanted is some one to call a meeting to form a society and get funds to make a good traok and other improvements to Mount Holdsworth touring, and also to get other scenic resorts made available. There is no reason why parties of ladies and gentlemen should not have a fairly easy time in going to the top of Holdsworth, Cad iam sure with the delightful life-giving, spicy air, the magnificent view, and the wonderful plant life up there, expeditions of this sort would soon become popular.—l am, etc., RESIDENT. Masterton, February sth, 1906.
