THE NEW HOSPITAL.

FLORAL FETE AND, GARDEN PARTY TO BE HELD.

A meeting of those interested in the raising of funds for the new hospital building was beld in the Forester"' Hall, last evening, to wake further arrangements injoonnection with the proposed floral fete and garden party. The Mayor presided, and there were between forty and fifty ladies and gentlemen present. On the motion of the Chairman, seoonded by Mr Blinkhorne, it was decided to form an Executive Committee consisting of both ladies and gentlemen. Mr F. Hunn was elected general supervisor, and the following were elected an Executive Committee:—Misses Hogg aud Petremont, Mesdames Marley, Rayner, Taylor, O'Oonaell, Montgomery, Day and Tait, and Messrs J. 0. Ewington, D. A. Morton, W. H. Jackson, R. Brown, B. J. Dolan, A. B. Charters, Dr Hosking, and Mr A. W. Hogg, Chairman of the Hospital Trustees; the Mayor, and the General Supervisor, ex officio. Mr Hogg was appointed Chairman, and the Executive Committee were given power to elect all other committees necessary.

Mr A. Niool stated that since the last meeting certain events bad transpired and rumours freely circulated about the town regarding his accepting the position of Secretary, that be found it necessary, in the interests of the new hospital building fund, to retire from the position. He had spoken to Mr Easthope, joint seoretary, who intimated that he could carry on the work, solely, and although he (Mr Niool) was willing to aot on the Executive Committee and do all in his power to further the interests of the floral fete, he would ask the meeting to aocept bis resignation. The Mayor and Mr Hogg spoke in terms of regret at Mr Niool's intention, and hoped be would still continue to carry out his duties if the meeting decided not to accept the resignation. On the motion of the Mayor, seoonded by Mr Blink home, it was decided not to accept the resignation of Mr Niool. The question of making a canvass for funds on Show Day was discussed, and finally the Mayor stated that the matter was one for the Executive Committee to take into consideration. The date for the floral fete and garden party was fixed for March Bth, and the site suggested for the former was the Showgrounds and for the latter the Park. It was decided that the Executive Committee meet to-night, in the Council Chambers, at 7.30 o'clock, to appoint the various subcommittees and other business.
