DANNEVIRKE NOMINATIONS. Nominations formal I events, except the Trial Hack and Maiden Hack Scurry, at the Dannevirke Jockey Club's annual meeting, on March 7th and Bth next, will close with the Secretary, Mr James S. There is a large number of visitors in town for the Pahiatua .Races, which will be held, to-morrow, and Thursday. The course is in capital order. The entries are large, anl good sport is anticicated. A slight shower of rain fell this morning.

The second day of the Nelson Jockey Club's Carnival Meeting was held to-day in perfect weather. The sum of £4558 was put throush the totalisator, making h total of £8,920 for the meeting. Results were as follow—

ACCIDENT TO A JOCKEY.

THAMES, January 30.

While riding at the Matatoki Races, Alfred Maxwell, the son of a settler, was thrown through his mount falling. He sustained concussion of the brain, and lies in the Thames Hospital in ( a critical condition.

The Manawatn Racing Club has inserted a new race in their programme for the Summer Meeting in 1906, to be. called the Palmerston North Stakes. The race is of the value of 500 sove, and is for two-years-old and upwards, weight for age, six furlongs.

The following winners afc Wellinftton and Foxton meetings incurred a 101b penalty at the Pahiataa meeting, which oommencee to-day:-Hardies, Geologist and Swop; Bail, way Handicap, Tambourina; Flying Hack Handicap, Federation and Silver Shell; Welter Haok Handicap, Pangaroa; Pahiatua Cup, Ropa, Submarine, Barca, Ladylike and L«therin; Konini Welter Handicap, Barca, Bowman and Tambourina.
