The English field rat has made its appearance in the vicinity or Christohurcfa. It is thought that these rata must have been introduced intentionally, as they would not come in ships, as the Norway rat did. They are pretty little creatures, and nest iu treed*.

Some of the Bibles doing duty in our courts of justioe bear evidence of years of service. Some idea of the magnitude of the tournament conoluded at Dunedin, on Friday, held under auspices of the New Zealand Bowling Association, will be gathered from the fact that in four and a half days 1,404 games were played, made up of 486 rink matches, 774 doubles, and 144 singles, an average of 312 games a day. This is a bowling record never excelled before in New Zealand or Australia..

A Press Association message received from Christchuroh, last evening, read-"At the inquest, held today, oonoerning the death of Michael Danan, who, while working at the Glenmore brick works, on Monday, was killed by a fall of day, a verdict Was returned that death was accidental, and a rider was added that when a section of olay is being loosened a man should be on top of the face to report any weakening or tendency to open out, for the protection of those working below."
