The Ellesmere branch (Canterbury) of the Farmers' Union, is coo.-., sidering the question of appointing a veterinary surgeon for the district. The Greymouth Star, of January 20th, reports:—Moonlight bas Jong been noted for its gold nuggets. The ( other day a nugget was got by a fossicker weighing 68oz, while in an adjoining olaim several nuggets up to 15oz in weight were obtained. All the gold was studded with lumps of quartz Two skeletons were found on the beach near Raglan a few days ago; also small pieces of clothing, bone buttons, and .the remnants of a woman's boot. The police have been communicated with. Over 20 years ago a sailing vessel during a westerly gale, gained the harbour, and on her subsequent voyage she was wreoked near by. On that occasion the captain and his wife were aboard, [and it is believed that the remains are [theirs.— Foxton Herald.
