The Secretary of the Royal Humane Society has received an application for recognition of a brsve deed performed by a half-caste Maori named Paitai Kaimuana at "Vairoa, on 12th December. The evidence accompanying the application shows that a boy named Will'am Crarer, five years of age, .who was playing on the banks of the Wairoa River with some companions, fell into the water. He was rapidly carried into deep water," and soon sank. The clace where Crarer sank was puinted out to the half-caste, and, without divesting himself of clothing, sprang into the water, successfully dived for the boy, and swam with him to snore.
