ANNUAL MEETING OP GOVERNORS. WELLINGTON, Jan. 25. The annual meeting of the Board of Governors of the New Zealand Institute commenced to-day. Mr Martin Chapman presided. The meeting placed on record its sense of deprivation in the death of Professor Hutton, and a short adjournment was made as a tribute of respeot to the memory of deceased. Sir James Hector was elected President. The other offices were filled as follow:—Treasurer, Mr Joynt; Secretary, Editor and Librarian, Mr Hamilton. Dr Coleridge Farr reported that the magnetic survey work had been resumed, and the observational work would be completed within the next two or three months. A motion that the summary meteorological returns be included in the volumes of the transactions of the Institute was negatived.
