KAPANUI DISASTER.

THE CAPTAIN CHARGED WITH MANSLAUGHTER. AUCKLAND, January 24. The inquest on the recovered bodies of the victims of the Kapanui disaster, which occurred in the harbour off the North Head, on the night of December 23rd, was oon oluded to-day. The jury brought in a verdict that the death of Clarke was due to crushing, while tlaat of Healey and Fletcher was due to drowning, and that the death of all three was occasioned by the improper navigation of James Southgate, the captain of the Kapanui. Captain Southgate was immediately arrested on a' charge of manslaughter, and was taken before a Justice of the Peace and released on bail, to appear before the Police Court tomorrow morning.
