As at first it was impossible to. get into th<» engine-room, the Are bav - ing, as it was afterwards ascertained, originated in one of the starboard coal bunkers, a bucket brigade wbb formed. When the Are in the engine' room had been got under by this method, a donkey-entene was got to work pumping water, which was directed on the seat of the Are and soon subduediit. The extent of the damage will not be ascertained until a survey has been made.
