MASTERTON PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH.
RESIGNATION OP THE REV, R. WOOD. On Tuesday afternoon a special meeting of the Wellington Presbytery was held in St. John's Church, the Rev. W. Marshall presiding in the absenoe of the Moderator. The speoial purpose for which the meeting was called was the consideration of a letter from the Rev. Robert Wood, intimating bis resignation of the charge of Master ton, on account of his having reoeived the appointment of organising agent of the Otago Sustentation Fund. A lengthy resolution was moved by the Rev. James Paterson, accepting Mr Wood's resignation, expressing appreciation* of his services, oon gratuiating him upon bis appointment, and wishing him every success in his new sphere of labour. The resolution also referred to the personal qualities of Mr Wood, the fraternal relations that had always existed between him and the Presbytery, the sucoeßS of his ohuroh work in Masterton and' the value of bis influence in promoting social and moral reforms. Mr McLean seoonded the resolution, and he and all the other members of the Presbytery heartily concurred in the expressions of esteem for Mr Wood enioodied in the motion. The resolution was unanimously agreed to, and the Presbytery then formally declared the pastoral charge of Masterton congregation to be vacant. , The Rev. Mr Shirer moved, and the Rev. Mr Paterson seconded, that the Rev. J. Kennedy Elliott be appointed Moderator "ad interim" of the Masterton charge, which was carried unanimously. Mr Wood's resignation takes effect from March 4th next.—New Zealand Times.
