HAWERA BAND CONTEST.
HAWERA, January 23. The Band Contest commenced today. On account of the tropioal rains the first test piece has been postponed until to-morrow night. The results of the solos to-day are as follow,: B-flat Euphonium. —R. EBtall, Woolston, 95 points, 1; T. Gray Wanganui Garrison, 93, 2; H. J. Flat, TaranaUi Garrison, 90, 3. D. Williams, South Canterbury, obtained 85, and F. E. Langton. Auckland Regimental, 79. E flat Horn.—C. Forrest, Wanganui, 94; J. MoKersey, Wellingou Garrison, 91, 2; G. Wilson, Canterbury Engineers, 3. W. Ramsay, Auckland Regimental, and A. Reilly, South Canterbury Battalion, each got 88, E; Beadle, Wanganui, 87, iS. Cross, Ruahine, 86, and F. Hawkey, South Canterbury, 78. 88-flat Bass.—W. Fentou, Woolston, 9i, 1; R. Wilson, Canterbury Engineers, 91; W. Pittam, Palmerston North, 91; T. MoNatty, South Canterbury Battalion, 88; A. Seager, South Canterbury Battalion, 86. G Trombone.—A. Handley, Tarauaki Garrison, 95, 1; G. Boyd, Wanganui Garriosn, 89, 2. Flugel Horn.— P. Cole, South Canterbury, Battalion, 94; E. Gould, Wanganui, 93 2; W. Stoke, Woolston, 92, 3. In the 88-flat Bass the play off for second place resulted m W. Pittman, Palinerston North, securing 92 points, and R. Wilson, Canterbury Engineers, 90 points. This pair previously tied.
