DROWNING FATALITY.
OAMARU, January 18. The Oamaru Mail learns from a private letter particulars of the drowning of Matthew Gait at Mataura on Tuesday. It appears that five young fellows, inoluding deceased, went for a bathe in the river. Gait got into a bole. Three of his companions who were bathing about the same spot got clear, but they were unable to get deceased out. Eventually another mate, Ernest Cameron, dived in and got Gait ashore. They worked for three hours endeavouring to resuscitate him, but unfortunately without result. t
