WALTHAM ORPHANAGE ENQUIRY.

CHRISTCHURCH, Jan. 18. At the Wnltham Orphanage enquiry to-day Fraukie Hammond, 14 years of age, Sarah Smith, yeirs, Maud Stuart, years, and former inmates of the Orphanage, gave evidence that they, were Kindly treated at the Institution. Mrs Carpenter had not called the children bad names, and members of the Institution's committee of the Charitable Aid Board stated that Mrs Carpenter had carried out her duties satisfactorily. No restriction was placed on her in the matter of food- The inquiry will be resumed to day.
