EKETAHUNA NEWS.

(From Our Own Correspondent), EKETAHUNA, Jan. 17. It was a representative though not large gathering that assembled in the Cab Hotel last evening, to bid farewell ,to Mr Henry Vile, who has taken over a farm at Longburn. Mr A. H. Herbert, Chairman of the Town Board, oocupied the chair. The Chairman, who aßked Mr Vile to accept a handsome liquet' stand from the townspeople, spoke in valudatnry terms of Mr Vile's work in the advancement of local intitutions. His first public service was rendered to the extinct Road Board as a member of , that body. He afterwards hold responsible positions, such as President of the Progress Association, President of the Farmers' Union, President of the Poultry Association, and was also a member of the School Committee, Town Board, Acclimatisation Socieiy, Rongoniai Club, and other institutions, for which be bad did excellent service. Messrs T. Moss, F. C. Tumor, A. Walkeer, F. Bright, J. W. Mathieson, J. A. Haswell and F. D. Peliing also eulogised the work done by Mr Vile. Mrs Vile was also the recipient of a Bilver teapot. Owing to some break-down in the machinery at theKonini Butter Factory suppliers in thai; vicinity have been compelled during the past few days to hand their milk either to Hamua or Scarborough.
