PONGAROA.
(Prom Our Own Corespondent). Large orders f6r fruit delivery at an early date have been placed with Mr Polglase, Maugataiuoka, by residents iu this district. The Premier is expected to visit Pongaroa on January 27th, when deputations will wait upon him in reference to the many wants of this district, Mr John Hancock, an oi l sett ler, and a Crimean and Baltic veteran, who holds both medals and clasps, and joined the Navy in 1854, and who servod in tho following ships of Her Majesty's Navy, rI.M.S. Valorous, Phaeton, Indus, Black Prince, Mersey, Cnnopus, Buzzard and Gorgon, is Jiving at Pongaroa. Mr W. 11. Gould, master of tho Pongaroa School, has set aside a fresh and more suitable site for the childrena' garden, whore instruction in cottage gardening will be taught them this season. Our courteous and obliging Post mistress -(Miss Sinclair) was presented, last week with a gold necklet lace and greenstone pendant as a ismall, token of the high esteem which she is held by the settlers in this district. Messrs G. Haines and 0. E. Tucker made the presentation on behalf of the subscribers. The Anglican Church bazaar will take plnce on Friday, January 26th, iu the Town Hall, in aid of the Charch funds. Mr Ernest E. Tucker, of Levin, late senior member of the lirra of Tucker Bros., has been paying this district a visit during tho past fe<v days.
