SYDNEY WOOL SALES. By Telegraph—Press Association. Received January 15, 11.10 p.m. / .; SYDNEY. January 15. There was animated competition at the wool sales. The improved features last week were fully maintained. Greasy wool touched and scoured Is 9%d. HIGH COMMISSIONER'S REPORT. WELLINGTON, Jan. 17. The Department of Industries and Commerce has received the following cablegram from the High Commissioner, dated London, 13th instant:—There has been no alteration in the mutton market since last week. The lamb market is quiet. The average price to day for last season's New Zealand Jamb is:—Canterbury brand, &%& per lb. The beef market is depressed. Tbe average price for hind-quarters of Now Zealand beef, to-day, is per lb; for fores, 2%d per lb. The butter market is firm, and there is a good demand, moderate supplies are coming forward. The price of ohoicest New Zealand butter, to day, is 117s per owt; Danish, 1245; and Australian and Argentine, 1335. The oheese market is steady, but the demand is only moderate at 63s per owt. The hemp market is very firm, and tbe stock is being reduced. There is no change in the prices, but a rise is expected. lYe stock totals 1099 tons. There are signs of improvement on the cocksfoot seed market, With a better demand. The arerage price, , for bright, clean. New Zealand oooksfoot seed, weighing 171bs per bushel, is 53s per owt. The wool mnrket remains firm, with a good demand for all descriptions. Current Bradford quotations for tope are 36's low orossbreds Is 3d, 40's (luw crosbreds) Is 3%d, 44's (medium crossbreds) Is sd, 50's (halfbreds) Is Bd, 56's(quarterbreds, Is lOd, 60's (merinos) 2s 1 l-3d, The importations of River Plate mutton and lamb into tbe United Kingdom for the month of Deoem- ' ber totalled 287,677, and 5925 respectively, distributed as follows: Mutton London, 124*134; Liverpool, 131,040; Hull, 8180; Newcastle, 10,246- Caridff, 7181; Southampton, 3300; Plymouth, 1600; Glasgow, 1996. Lamb— London, 1757; Liverpool 4118; Southampton', 50. Tbe average price to-rtay for River Plate mutton is per lb, and lamb 3%d per lb.
