ITALY AND THE CATHOLIC CHURCH.
ROME, January 15. Italy, in disendowing religious orders in 1873, allotted £16,000 sterling for the maintenance of Orders abroad. The Pope (Pius IX.) refused to accept the money, but in consequence of disestablishment the Orders in France will receive £12,200 annually.
