park committee meeting.
A meeting of the Park Committee of the Mateiton Borough Council was held last evening, there being present—Crs Ewington (in the chair), Temple, Morris, Elliott and Hoar. The Town Clerk was instructed to arrange for a meeting between the Trust Lands Trust and the Committee with rolerenco to the ro-ncling-ofl' of Town Acre 89 to improve the entrance to the Park; arrange the meeting for Monday morning, if possible; also to write to the l'rusteesexplaining the position of affairs, and" ask them to reconsider ihe question of the present year's grant. It was resolved: —That permission be aiven to the Mastertou Baud to hold a concert ou the evening of January 18 in the Park; the baud to be allowed to take up a collection in the usual way. Ihe band wrote about the Rotunda being crowded when playing there, and suggested gates be\ug erected at the Rotund* entrance, and also asked if the Council would lay gaa on to the Rotunda. The question of gates was held over for the present. It was decided to ask all those interested in the Park, including last year's committee, to meet the | committee next week in the Council Chambers, with a view to arranging an entertainment during the Show in aid of the Park Beautifying scheme. It was resolved to inform tho Band that the Committee hope to be able to raise funds to lay the gaa on to the Rotunda. No answer was received Itom the Society, and the work had not been done. It was doSifled, on holiday occasions, when not required lor Band purposes, to utilise fcbe Rotunda as a tea-room. Cr Elliott offered to lend the calico for a screen round the Rotunda. Cr Temple said that he would lend the Committee bamboo screens for the season. It was resolved to'accept Cr Temple's offer. The Chairman and Cr Temple were authorised to obtain what chairs, etc., were necessary. It was decided to lot the ten acres temporarily to Mr Day<jh fur grazing purposes on certain conditions. It was resolved to alter the Park fence by the Morgue, so as to allow bodies to be taken there through tho Cemetery instead of through the Park as at present; also to lay the water on to the building. The Chairman drew attention to the condition of the oyole track, which, he considered, was not safe, and the looal Societies should have an opporunity of making a proper one, or the tiack to ba done away with. It was decided to give notice to that effect to the Societies, inviting them to appoint representatives to meet the Committee on tho matter. It was decided that in future training permits be only issued at the Town Clork's office, and no person be allowed to train until he produces his permit to the Custodian, It was also resolved that after St. Patrick's Day Sports meeting this year no publican's booth be allowed on the ground. The Committee approved of the Engineer's recommendation to put 4 inch pipes in the trench in Pine Street to keep down the wator.
