EKETAHUNA NEWS.
(From Our Own Correspondent). EKETAHUNA, Jan. 12. Mr J. A. Haßwell has been elected Chairman of the Eketahuna Chamber of Commerce for the ensuing year. The extraordinary vacancy caused in the Town Board by the resignation of Mr H. Vile is likely to bring forward quite a largo number of aspirants. Mr 11. Vile, who is leaving this district to take up his residence in the Mauawatu, is to bo given something tangible in recognition of his services to public institutions in these parts. To thoso unaware of the assiduous teaching undergone by a.local combination calling themselves the Amateur Dramatic Club, the performance aiven ia the Town Hall last evening must have come as a surprise. The piece staged was h comedietta, eutitled, "Withered Leaves," which gave ample scope for the individual members of the Amateur Dramatic Club to display their talent. That each member did their part well was shown by the frequent applause of the large audience. Those taking part were Messrs Dunstone, J. Bell, G. Burton, L. F. Wright, and Misses McDonald and Amy Anderson. The conoert portion of the programme was fairly well received, the dropping out of several prominent vocalists not being appreciated by the audience. In all the entertaiument was ft big success, the proceeds boing far in excess of anything anticipated by the promoters.
