RHODES SCHOLARSHIP.
A«OTHER NEW ZEALAND NOMINEE. By Telegraph—Press Association, 1 ? AUCKLAND, January 8. * , A meeting of the professional Board was held at Auckland University College for the purpose of nominating an Auckland candidate for the Rhodes scholarship. The Board decided to nominate Mr Leonard Travers Pickmere, son of the late Mr R. Pickmere, of Remuera. Mr Piokmere waß born in Auckland 24 years ago, and educated at the Auckland Grammar School, where he held a junior district scbolarsbip for three years, matriculating at the end of that period. He remained at the Grammar School for a further two years, and then, with a view to taking a law degree, entered the Auckland University, keeping terms for 1901 and 1902. He sat for bis final examination for L.L.B. degree last year, and passed. Mr Pickmere, who is a fine stamp of the young New Zealander, has aohieved considerable success in athletic circles, in addition to educational qualifications. At the Grammar School he held the record for pole-jumping, and was elected oaptain of the Grammar School football first fifteen. On entering the University he carried with him bis reputation as a footballer, and was ultimately chosen captain of the college hist fifteen. He is also a oapable tennis-player. Socially he is very popular amongst his fellows, and at present he holds the office of president of the Students' Association at the college.
