With Atlantic liners, the cost of building is a rrifle compared to tbe coat of running them. In less than three years the latter will exceed the cost of construction; so enormous is the constant expenditure \in wages, port dues and repairs. Aocording to a statement made by tbe Ohristchurob Drainage Board's engineer, land values are going up so fast in the sewage area under the Board's control that rates are expected to realise £IOOO more for this year than was estimated when the rate was struck.
