A sample of gold from the Master ton Company's Dredge is now on view in the boot window of the W.P.O.A. The vital statistics for Greytowu during the mouth of December were:—Births, 5; deatfcs, 0; marriages, 0. Four first offenders appeared before Mr Eh Smith, J.P., ao the Maeterton Police Court yesterday irorning. One forfeited 5s bail, and the remainder were convicted and discharged.
Mr W. P. James, S.M., of Masterton, occunied the Beuoh at the Wellington Magistrate's Court on Wednesday in the absence of Dr. MoArthur, S.M. The most immediate bookings for the Town Hall are:—Czerny. January 9; J C. Williamson. January 22 and 23; George Stevenson, February 12, 13 and 14. A case will be heard at the Magistrate's Court this morning, in which a local Chinese will be charged with having supplied a boy under 16 years with cigarettes. The Reef ton Times states that there have been two suits instituted at the local Warden's Court in connection with claims against mmiug companies for accidents. One claim is for £IOOO, and the other for £SOO. For the quarter ended December last there were 66 births, 26 deaths and 21 marriage 3 in Masterton, making a total of 249 births, 71 deaths and 73 marriages for the year, 1905. During, the last quarter of 1904 there were 62 births, 17 deaths and 16 marriages, and during the year there were 251 births, 67 deaths and 71 marriages. The Masterton Brass Band have arranged to play a number of selections, including contest selections, on Sunday on the Park Oval. A collection will be taken up in aid of the expenses to tne Nelson Contest next month. The Band havo also arranged to play at Greytown on the 14th and at Carterton on the 21st instant, and to hold a sports meeting on the Park Oval on Tuesday, 16tb instant, particulars of which will be duly advertised. As showing the great progress made in the colony by the London Trinity College of Music over other societies holding examinations in New Zealand, we are informed that the secretary for Wellington centre,Mr A. J. Wicks, has in two years secured upwards of five hundred entries of candidates for examination, thus obtaining for himself the honour of "academic membership," one which very few persons have succeeded in aobieving. A boy is wanted to assist on a oart. A lost railway ticket is advertised for. Messrs Coradine and Whittaker require a youth for factory and a boy to learn the carpentry and joinery trade. Mr W. H. Cruioksbank advertises particulars or a number of town and country properties whioh have Jjeen placed in his hands for sale. Ah advertiser has to let a five- ' roumed furnished house and an unfurnished four-roomed cottage in Colomba Road. Address may be had on application at Age office. The London Warehouse Company have a special notice in this issue with reference to the new lines of drapery and clothing, etc whioh have been purchased direct from the Home manufacturers, lhe firm make a specialty of tailor-made suits. The great Christmas sale of pianos and organs is still being continued very successfully at the Dresden Go's, depot in Queen Street, Masterton. A fresh consignment of instruments have been opened up, and a very fine exhibition is now on view at the Joaal premises. Specially easy terms are still being offered, and an exceptional opportunity cis afforded anyone in want of a reliable instrument. The Dry River Estate, at Martinborough, having been sold to the Government for close settlement, the Trustees for the late Jacob Joseph have Instructed Messrs Levin and Co., Ltd., to submit at auction at the homestead, on Thursday, March 1, the whole of the stock, implements, etc., including 20,000 sheep, 1500 head of cattle and 50 horses. Fuller particulars will be advertised at a later date, meantime the preliminary announcement will be found on, page S of this issue. Notwithstanding the large business done by Messrs MoLeod, and Young during the Christmas season, their , premises no.v present an appearance that is extremely inviting. Goodts sold have been re >laced, and the firm are still in a position to supply the demands of picnic parties, school committees and others. In an advertisement in this issue special attention is drawn to their range of diaries for 1906, and it would appear that those wanting "anything" should go to "JPhe Academy." One or two Christmas numbers are left. Last year the Government intimated its willingness to guarantee a return of Id per lb net on all apples shipped from New Zealand to London. The offer was made rather late in the summer, and none of the Fruit-growers' Associations were able to obtain sufficient supplies of apples to justify them in making a shipment to England. Cabinet has now renewed its offer, and it is believed that it will be taken advantage of by several of the associations. The only condition which the Government has imposed is that the fruit must be passed as first-olass by its experts. The Biological Division of the Agricultural Department, which will give shippers every facility to send the apples Home, is now in communication with the various associations with the object of ascertaining what quantities are likely to be eent.away. —Post. MERIT REWARDED BY COURT OF JUSTICE.
