WORKMEN'S FRIEND BUILDING SOCIETY.
MEETING OF SHAREHOLDERS. A meeting gof the Workmen's Friend Building Society was held in the Fire Police Station last evening to elect nine, directors and transact other business. Mr R. Rigg occupied the ohair, and there were about twenty shareholders present. The Chairman, in a few opening remarks, said that there was another Society in the town, which had been in existence about seven years, and he believed that it had been a success. Therefore another society was justified, in starting, for the population of Mas-terton had greatly increased during those &eveu years, and the building trade was never more brisk than it is at present. A further proof that Masterton was going ahead was tho currying of the £25,000 loan. He advised those present to be careful in selecting the directors, and uulv put men on the directorate who would have tho interests of the society at heart and further it along. It was decided to take the verbal sanction of shareholders as sufficient for their being nominated on the directorate. The following directors were elected: —Messrs A. B. Charters, A. Donald, R. J. Lyttle, J. A. Shackelton, G. G. Johnston, R. Rigg, L. H. Lewis, R. Sutherland, and J. D. Smith. Mr Donaldson was elected Secretary, and the question of salary was left to the directors. At a meeting of the newly-elected directors held subsequently, Mr A. B. Cnarters was elected Chairman, and Mr R Rigg Vice-Chairman. The matter of elioosing books was left with the secretary and Mr JohnStOD. Mr Donald was appointed to attend the first pay night, after which the directors will attend in alphabetical order. It was decided to meet again on February 6.
