COUNTY COUNCILS.
MAURICEVILLE. The ordinary meeting of the Council was held ou Saturday, D«cember 30. Present—Crs J. C. Cooper (chairman), C. A. Wall, H. J. Dagg, C. C. Jackson, J. F. Heckler and J. E. Perry. Correspondence was received from the Secretary of the New Zealand International Exhibition, soliciting exhibits, more particularly those of a sanitary or byeienic nature. The opinion was expressed that Council wa<* not in a position to cooperate in the matter. Tho District Engineer wrote stat ing that the ruatter of altering the culvert underneath the line at the Mauriceville Railway Station would be louked into. The Mauriceville Lima Company wrote agreeing to the Council's terms re widening the road formation adjoining the Railway Station. The General Manager of Railways wrote statiug that after perusing the report of the Civil Engineer, respecting tho alterations to tho road when raising the overhead bridge, he was satisfied that the alterations made have in no way prejudiced the Council, and that the approaches to tho bridgo have not been injuriously affected. The Inspector of Noxious Weeds directed attention to the necessity for prompt action for clearing weeds from lands in the Council's occupation.— Cr Wall was authorised to employ labour to clear ox-eye daisy and ragwort on south bank of the i Makakahi River at Kaiparoro. Tha Department of Labour notified the Council lo decide on which working day in the week shops shall | closo at 1 o'clock.—lt was resolved to hold a special meeting for this purpose on Saturday, the 27th,inst., and appoint Thursday as the weekly half-holiday. Attention was drawn to the inclusion of "foxulove" in the second schedule of the "Noxious Weeds Act." D. Christie wrote asking the Council to do something to repair the Mangatainoka Valley Road.— It was resolved to expend a small sum in repairing the upper end of the road, and that Cr Wall should inspect the work when done. Messrs Harvey. Palmer, Farrow and Stewart wrote asking that their rates and accrued thirds be spent in metalliug part of the Kaiparoro Road. It was resolved to request the Commissioner of Crown Lands to take stens to vest section No. 29, Block V., Kopuaranga in the Council. J. Williams, late roadman on the Ihuraua Valley Road, having left the Council's employment, it was decided to invite applications for the position in time to deal with offers at next meeting on the 27th inst. Cr Perry reported on the bridge to Tollgate Road, which he said was too far gone to be} repaired, but it would probably serve for the present season's milk traffic.—Cr Heckler wasjauthorised to take the matter in hand and attend to anything that may be required. Cr Perry was authorised- to get a culvert put in] the Wangaehu Road. Crs Wall and Heckler were empowered to deal with metalling on Kaiparoro Road. The tenders of O. Franzen for maintaining the Mauriceville South andjWest Roads for one year at £25 and £ls respectively, was accepted. W. Radcliffe's tender for maintaining Jaokson's Road for three years at £3O per year was accepted. Only one tender was received for maintenance of Mauriceville North Road, and [being informal, was declined. Instructions were given to invite tenders for supply and delivery of 297 yards road metal on the Main Road. 75 yards on Dreyer's Rock Road, 75 yards on Mangamahoe Road, 150 yards on Mauriceville North . Road, 50 yards on Mauriceville West Koad, 75 yards Mauriceville South Road, and 75 yards on Jackson's Road. ' Accounts amounting to £169 12s 6d were passed for oavment.
