RACING.

PAHIATUA RACING CLUB. The annual race meeting of the Pabiatua Racing Club will be held on Wednesday and Thursday, January 31 and February 1. The programme this year's meeting shows the substantial sum of 1000 sovs. alloted to the sixtepn races, 540 tors fur the first day and 460 for the second day's events. The chief event is the Pahiatna Cun, an open handicap of 150 sovs There are nlso two other open events, the Railway Handicap, 100 sovs, and the Konini Welter of 50 sovs. On the second day tho open events are the Racing Club Handicap, of 100 sovs, Stewards' Handicap, of 70 sovs, and tJbe Grandsrand Welter, of 50 sovs. The hack events are each liberally dealt with, being awaided sums from 40 sovs to 50 sovs "each. The club are the possessors of a well-appointed course, and further improvements have lately been added for the comfort of racing men, as well as the general public, who are liberal patrons of this popular club. Nominations for all events close with the secretary, Mr G. 11. Hartley Drew, Pahiatua, at 9 p.in. on Monday, January 8.
