SILVERSTREAM WOMEN'S INSTITUTE.

The November meeting of the Silverstream Women's Institute was presided over by Mrs. Spackman, -who welcomed the visitors and also members who have recently returned. An interesting and comprehensive report of the South "Wellington halfyearly Council meeting- held at Upper Hutt was given by Mrs. Jefcoate who had acted as reporting- delegate. All keen craftswomen welcomed the announcement that Miss Maddever will hold an Arts and Crafts School on November 26 and 27 in the Oddfellows' Hall, Trentham, and they are looking forward to two happy and profitable days. Thei-e was also an announcement that Mrs. Watts will be in "Wellington on December 7, when all members will have the opportunity of hearing hexspeak at the Blue Triangle Hall. It was decided there should be a small flower show at the December monthly meeting, since the combined annual flower show has been postponed until the autumn. Everyone is very busy with preparations for the Garden Party which is to be on Saturday, November 21, at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. Castle, Silverstream. At the conclusion of the business Mrs. Spackman vacated the chair, and Miss Farrow conducted the meeting during the social hour, -which was devoted to Rudyard Kipling. It was arranged by several members. An account of his life was followed by a recitation and songs from the "Just So Stories" and concluded with the delightful children's story of "The Elephant's Child." This month's competition was won by Mrs. Jones's very dainty child's frock costing not more than 2/6. Miss Shallcrass was the lucky winner of a cake donated by Mrs. Callaghan. The hostesses were Mesdames Campbell, Cook Lay, Ayers, and Keys.
