LADIES' HOCKEY.

UPPER HUTT 2 v. WESLEY 1. This game was played at Maidstone Park last Saturday on a very wet ground. Upper Hutt had to play their best to win as they had to fill two places ■with intermediate players. Nevertheless, they played well against a very good team. The game opened at a fast pace, TJpper Hutt rushing play down field and their opponents had a busy time in keeping them out. Play went up and down field until about half-way through the first spell, Miss Mumm netted for Wesley. Upper Hutt in the first spell had some trouble on account of the goalmouth being slushy. The Upper Hutt forwards were over anxious and were getting off-side which spoilt several chances. Upper Hutt rushed play to the circle for a few minutes and found the Wesleybacks quite capable of keeping them, out. After- about 20 minutes' play, Miss Strickland, Upper Hutt's centre forward, put in a splendid solo run and found the net, which brought the scores level. Wesley took the game in hand for a while but the Upper Hutt backs were sound. With two minutes to go, Mrs. Wellington, right wing for Upper Hutc, put in a nice run up the line and centred to Miss M. Fuller, inside left, who goaled with a very well-timed point stroke, making- the score Upper Hutt 2, Wesley 1. V. Hodder was the umpire. Wesley's goal-keeper played splendidly. Upper Hutt deserve praise as they played a good game and have a well balanced team. They should give Greytown a g-ood game when they meet for the Campbell Cup. The championship games are concluded and Upper Hutt are the "run-ners-up." The team have upheld the traditions of good sportsmanship of which Upper Hutt is proud and in addition have met many good sportingfriends and played enjoyable games. Many members of the club have caught the selector's eye for the trial matches this week-end. There is possibility of games at Napier and Greytown for the local playei-s before the season closes. Upper Hutt Ladies' Hockey Club were runners-up in their senior competition in which there were eight teams. The following- players have been chosen to play in the trial representative team: Mrs. Wellington, Misses Marie Strickland, Hilda Ci-ofts. Melva Bi-owd and IX Wornall. For the Intermediate representative team Misses M. Auckran and N". Bosher have been selected. Congratulations, ladies!
