(1) Gifford A. C. Chatsworth Road: Filling of Property:. That the matter be referred to trie Overseer witli instructions to act. The Town Clerk to acknowledge the letter and say, with regard to the gate, that if the necessary material be provided the Overseer will have the work done, and with regard to the filling, the Overseer has been informed to utilise any suitable spoil available. (2) Lean Proposals: The commitmittee recommends that a deputation be sent from this •Council to interview the Plon. Minister of Finance and Employment and has in view the kerbing and channelling and consequent footpath formation, in the following localities : Main Road, within the Borough—both sides. Martin Street—both sides. Ararino Road—one side, and Railways side to Glasgow St. Mangaroa Road—one side. McLean Street—one side. Whitemans Valley Road—one side. . It is suggested that if subsidies hitherto provided be made applicable to these works, a minimum of 30 men for a term of one would be absorbed. Clause 2, Loan Proposals. Councillor Purvis, the chairman of the committee, explained that according to a resolution on the minutes it was decided to kerb and channel on both sides of the Main Road, and if the Council was successful with the deputation, such work would be able to be carried on, and thus reduce the number of unemployed in the Borough. The Mayor, in supporting Councillor Purvis, said it was a resolution carried by the Council to kerb and channel the Main Road and if the subsidy is provided it would mean employing 30 men at 16/- per day, five days a week for twelve months. Councillor Keys: This is only approximately the work that the committee intends to do, I take it. Councillor Greig: I move that the "Works Committee act as the deputation and wait on the Minister, and bring forward the major works in the report before his notice. Councillor Baskett seconded, and stated he hoped that something would be done about the bridges in Whitemans Valley Road. The motion was carried.
